Cecile Riverain is responsible for IGD’s International Retail Market Research, which covers the grocery markets in Europe and further afield with the major BRIC markets. She is managing a wide range of outputs, including original research, delivery of training courses and commissioned briefings and added-value insight for IGD’s Retail Analysis online service.

IGD is an organisation which brings together food industry and grocery experts, with headquarters in London, UK. It provides market insights and best practices to its members all over the world.

Cecile Riverain is an expert on pan-European retailing trends. Beyond the key European markets (e.g. France, Germany, UK, etc) a special attention is given to the evolution of the discount sector and the transitioning markets of Eastern Europe. Cecile Riverain has published several studies on these key strategic topics since joining IGD, in June 2005.

To track the strategy of the leading players in Europe, she regularly interviews industry executives and travels extensively to meet with retailers and suppliers in Europe.

Prior to joining IGD, Cecile Riverain spent 8 years at the British retailer Marks & Spencer, where she held several regional management positions before joining the Insight & Strategy Team of M&S Food Business Unit as a Strategic Business Planner. Her responsibilities included business reporting and the review of a wide range of business initiatives including: promotional campaigns, pricing benchmarking, the trial of new retail format. She has also worked for leading retailer Edeka in Germany, as a Marketing Assistant for its regional discount format Niedrig Preis.

The Europe Research Manager at IGD holds a Master degree in Management from ESCP-EAP.
